What is NDIS Early Childhood Intervention?

Early childhood intervention supports children aged 0 to 9 years who have a developmental delay or disability, or who may benefit from early, targeted support to strengthen learning and development. Rather than waiting for challenges to escalate, this early childhood approach supports children in their everyday environments.

How is NDIS Early Childhood Intervention funded under the NDIS?

Occupational Therapy is funded through an NDIS plan, aligned with the assessed goals and support needs. Once a person becomes an NDIS participant and their plan includes funding for Improved Daily Living supports, BlueRocket Therapy can provide services that can be claimed with NDIS funds.

BlueRocket Therapy provides NDIS Early Childhood Intervention services that are structured, practical and adaptable to individual circumstances. Support can include functional capacity assessments, equipment recommendations, occupational therapy, home or environmental modifications and written reports required for NDIS reviews.

Therapy is delivered across a range of relevant settings to reflect how participants actually live, learn and move throughout their day. We work alongside families and carers to ensure recommendations are clear, achievable, and in line with plan requirements, eliminating uncertainty and supporting consistent implementation.

Our therapists work collaboratively with Speech Pathologists to support access to Augmentative and Alternative Communication and functional mealtime participation, where relevant to a person’s goals.

How we support your child & family

BlueRocket therapists work closely with other allied disciplines, so you only need to share your story once. Our team-based approach is tailored to your NDIS plan, providing coordinated, practical support across home, clinic and community settings.

1

Initial assessment & goal planning

Your clinician will take the time to understand your child’s development, your family’s priorities and any concerns you may have. This includes reviewing all available information, discussing goals and understanding the environments where your child spends time.

2

Family-centred therapy sessions across settings

We observe your child’s skills and participation through play, interaction and everyday routines, either in person or via telehealth where appropriate. This helps us understand your child's strengths, developmental needs, and how they engage across home, childcare, or early learning settings.

Assessment may consider communication, movement, play, regulation and participation, alongside family routines and existing support.

3

Specialised, multi-disciplinary support strategies

Intervention supports are delivered by qualified therapists with experience in early childhood and the NDIS. Support focuses on real-world functioning and can include:

  • Supporting communication and social interaction
  • Building play and early learning skills
  • Developing independence in daily routines
  • Supporting regulation and behaviour
  • Coaching parents and carers with practical strategies

Intervention plans are flexible and can evolve as your child grows and develops.

4

Review, collaboration & ongoing support

Progress is reviewed regularly to ensure support remains appropriate and effective. We work collaboratively with families, early educators, early childhood partners and other support services to ensure strategies are understood and implemented consistently.

We also support families in navigating transitions, including changes in funding or transitions from early childhood supports to school-aged services.

Who May Benefit from NDIS Early Childhood Intervention?

Early childhood intervention can be helpful at different points in a child's and family’s journey, depending on individual circumstances, the child’s developmental needs, and key transition points.

Families with concerns about early development

For families noticing early differences in their child’s development, early childhood intervention provides timely support and guidance, helping families address concerns before difficulties become more complex.

Children accessing the NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) approach

Children supported through an NDIS ECEI partner may receive intervention designed to strengthen development and build family capacity, either on a short-term basis or as part of funded NDIS support.

Families preparing for transitions or plan reviews

Early childhood intervention can also support families during key transition points, such as preparing for school or changes in NDIS support, ensuring continuity of care and clear planning.
